EMBROIDERY THREAD AND STRING

Audiences are invited to distort and manipulate the wrapped female figure located in the centre of the gallery space. Made of tightly wound embroidery thread and string, the materials used in Embroidery Thread and String (2023) allude to the downgrading of textiles and traditional female mediums such as embroidery in art history. At times the figure looks exhausted and is entirely at the behest of the viewers, lacking agency to decide the way in which it occupies space. The sculpture seeks to provoke a discussion around the links between labour, the female body and traditionally feminine materials.
